FINANCIAL AID ASSISTANCE
NIGHT

 For Seniors and their parents

Monday, February 11  

4:00 -7 p.m.   Chaparral H.S. Career Computer Lab

College Financial Aid Advisors will be on campus to assist seniors and their parents complete the FAFSA online.

Student and/or parent(s) will need the following documents:

  • 2012 federal tax returns, including W-2 information for student, parent(s)/guardian(s)
  • Student and Parent(s) Social Security Number
  • Alien Registration Number if not a U.S. citizen
  • Records of untaxed income (such as Social Security Benefits, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)benefits and veteran benefits)
  • Information on savings, investments, and business and farm assets for student and parent(s)

Federal student aid is awarded based on information students and parents provide on the FAFSA.   If you do not file a FAFSA, federal money is not available to you.  The most costly education is the one not begun.


BEWARE OF SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID SCAMS!

Be cautious of scholarship and financial aid organizations that charge fees for their services.    

Check with your counselor if you are not sure that a financial aid or scholarship offer you have received is legitimate.

 


If you are a student or community member who would like to learn more about working in libraries, please read this announcement.  There are scholarships available for people over the age of 14 to help out in all kinds of libraries: schools, academic, public and special.

People selected will receive an $800 scholarship in exchange for volunteering 100 hours in a library. Each person will have a library mentor for advice and training.

 There are also scholarships available for Master’s Degree level students studying for the MLIS and who live in the 12 county area that includes West Texas and the three counties in Southern New Mexico.

BigSun Scholarship


The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Deadline        -  June 21, 2013    

Amount of Award  -        $500.00

 

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

OTERO PRISON FACILITY SCHOLARSHIP        Deadline:  March 15, 2013

The Otero County Prison Facility will award $1,000 to two CHS students.
