School During Quarantine

Family Resources

Three school districts in southern New Mexico -Gadsden, Las Cruces, and Hatch Valley-want all their parents to celebrate daily with their students with a "High Five at Five" every day.

"The High Five at Five" is a five-step initiative that is part of the "#CHECKINWITH YOUR KIDS" campaign promoted by these three school districts in an effort to reach out to all their parents as key to their students' success since face-to-face instructions put all student in front of their home computers and virtually eliminated all social interaction students once enjoyed.  "With our students online, we want to ensure they are supported to ensure success. This is a county wide effort to partner with our families to promote student achievement during this unique time." said Travis Dempsey, superintendent of Gadsden ISD.  The campaign wants parents to regularly check in on their student's success; make sure students have logged into class; and, check the finished work their student is required to do.  And the "High Five at Five" part of the initiative is five things parents should do to promote their involvement in the challenging schedules students face daily online.

Here's how parents can check in with their kids:

-Take time to check in each night with their student;

-Encourage their child to tell them 5 things they've learned each day;

-Encourage their children to reach out to a trusted adult if they need someone to talk to;

-Encourage their child to do some physical activity outside each day and make a connection with a friend;

-Check in with your school or district website for info on grab&go meals and other helpful resources.
